Addiction and Substance Abuse I
This one-day course explores the concepts of addiction and substance abuse and refers to addiction as a problematic use of substance defined by craving, loss of control of dosage and frequency of use, compulsion to use, and use despite consequences. This course covers the harms of substance use that range from mild to severe, as well as explains the difference in treatment options available from self-help, harm reduction, and counselling to withdrawal management. This comprehensive course is designed for professionals in the human services field and those interested in addiction studies.
